FAQs

What is Heartcade?

We’re a blind dating game. Our mission is to make dating more fun and more human by forgoing endless swiping in exchange for a chance to develop more meaningful connections, romantic or otherwise.

How long do we chat with our matches before deciding whether to reveal our profile?

48 hours.

What happens after I press “X” on a person?

By pressing X on a person, you are choosing to unmatch and forgo the final step of revealing your profile pictures.

Won’t I feel disappointed if I’m not attracted to my matches?

Maybe a little. Our hope is that 48 hours is long enough to create a meaningful connection but short enough that it won’t sting too much if it’s not a fit upon reveal. The better question is: what if you do find your matches attractive? We think it’s worth the risk. If you don’t find your match in one Season, keep on playing the game—as they say.

Here’s 3 things we think are more disappointing than matching with someone you’re not attracted to:

(1) Matching with someone you think is a 10/10 on another dating app, but never end up talking again past a “Hello.” (2) Meeting your Tinder date IRL only to realize their photos are several years old. (3) Finding a hookup when you’re looking for a relationship.

Do I get anything for referring a friend?

We are a game, so what kind of game would be if we didn’t reward you with something for referring a friend? Pre-launch, by referring a friend, you’ll automatically guarantee yourself and your friend a spot in our fourth and final Beta. Just make sure your friend puts your name down in the “referred by” field.

How do I sign up to be part of the Beta?

For a chance to be part of our fourth and final Beta rolling out at the end of January 2021, sign up now: heartcade.co/request-entry

How do I report a bug?

If you find a bug, we’d love to know about it! You can do it directly in the app by going to the “About/Help” section. As well, you can email us at support@heartcade.co.

Why is Heartcade a dating “game” and not an “app”?

We’re fundamentally different from a dating app! As a team of gamers and video game developers, we’ve borrowed many gaming mechanics to make the process of finding a match engaging.

How many matches will I get?

Each season, users will get a minimum of 4, depending on the user’s own preference filters, our compatibility algorithm, and the number of people active on the app.

Why didn’t I get any True Matches after reveal day?

It happens! If you didn’t find you match during one Season, please play again! You wouldn’t give up on beating the final level of your favourite video game, or would you? (Cue your competitive spirit).

But isn’t attraction an important factor in dating?

Looks are no doubt important! We think they are too. That’s why you get to see what your matches look like after only 48 hours. We’re not removing attraction from the equation, we’re just reordering its importance. Attraction, after all, isn’t only based on how someone looks, there’s much more to it. But, we don’t fall in love with the "perfect profile" in real life, so why is that the standard entry point for online dating?

What is the difference between the Beta & public release?

Heartcade’s Beta releases are only available to a limited amount of users which our team selected. The main purpose is to fix any bugs and glitches to ensure our official application runs as smooth as possible. Our public release will be available to everyone and free to download in the Google Play and Apple Store.

When is Heartcade’s official app launching?

Our public release is set for Valentine’s Day 2021. In the meantime, Heartcade’s fourth and final Beta will be rolling out soon. Sign up today to find out about your next chance to play.

I’ve signed up for the Beta! What now?

If you’re chosen to be a part of our exclusive Beta, we’ll have sent you a link to input your email address.

Why do I get “waiting for developer” after registering for a season?

Unfortunately, you missed the deadline to sign up for the current season, so you’ll have to wait until the next season to play. Good news is you’ll be guaranteed a spot when we push the next build.

How does it work?

Our debut game Mystery Date is a blind dating game where users are matched and chat with one another for 48 hours before deciding whether to reveal their profiles.

How do I give feedback?

If you have any feedback, ideas for the app, or features you’d like to see, please let us know! Click here to make a suggestion.

I’m still worried about feeling really disappointed if I don’t think my matches are cute.

We get it. We know that love isn’t totally blind. You can unmatch with a person at any time and they won’t show up in your future Seasons again. However, the majority of existing dating apps prioritize the profile over the connection, aka they make looks the very first entry point in selecting a match. But these same apps have also led to a distracted, ghosting, and hookup culture where real connection is increasingly difficult to find.

Do you support all gender identities and sexual orientations?

Absolutely! As a team with LGBTQ+ members on it, it’s important that our gender identity and sexual orientation options reflect the diversity of users on our platform. Any current shortcomings are due to our backend limitations. However, as we grow, and as our user base grows, we’re dedicated to continuing to improve this area. If you have any feedback, please get in touch: hello@heartcade.co.

I’ve been suspended. What do I do now?

If you’ve been suspended, it’s likely you’ve violated one of our terms of service. If you’d like to dispute your suspension, please email us at support@heartcade.co with your information and why you don’t think you’ve violated our terms.
